Tomok is one of the oldest village in samosir island and be
the well-known tourist spot here. Can reach from parapat use regular boat from
tiga raja harbor. Tomok is well-known for traditional houses with sigale-gale
puppet/statue and the ancient tomb of samosir.
The legend of sigae-gale puppet was the only young son of
the king, asking to go to the war field by the king. Unfortunately he was
killed. For batak people, son is the most precious treasure and successor of clan then the king was very sad. Some
people that had carving skill looking for special wood from the jungle and
curved it look like king’s son face, then by helping of bomo/foreteller called
the spirit and asking to go inside the carving. After that hold the traditional
dance on front of the king house. The king came out and surprised that his son
was alive. King said to held party for seven days. Last time that is used to do
to console people who lost the only one son.
Tomb of sidabutar king is the area of
sidabutar royal cemetery/tomb. There are three king tomb, chief villager and
king soldier with unique shape. Due to the locksmith the first king was buried
here around 650 years ago. First king was ompu soribuntu sidabutar, second king
was ompu niujungbarita sidabutar and the third was ompu solompoan sidabutar.
Tomok also well-known for souvenir and hand
craft.
