Siallagan village is one of the famous tourist spots on the Samosir
island. It became tourist object

Here visitors can see and feel Batak tribe of past civilizations. Here there
are eight traditional houses, and every village at samosir island each headed
by a king. This area is surrounded by a wall of stone and there is one
entrance. And near the entrance there is a statue pangulubalang, that mean is guard
of the village. It is
said that all statue located in every corner
of the village and the house were inhabited by the spirits of ancestors to keep
the place.

Batak traditional houses made of wood primary, built without using nails. Inside
the house is open without rooms inside. So every family slept together and
cooked in the middle. Normally each house was living three to four family. The
lower part was used to place animals, second stage used to living and the top
used to storing harvest. In the front there is stair that is always have odd
number. The front door is not more than one meter with the intention that
people who go inside have to bow their heads, that mean respecting to the
homeowner. Batak traditional houses have typical ornaments with statues. There
are carved lizard that is as a symbol of friendship. In front of lizard carving
there are also breast carving, yes.. Breast carving. Why? I.e. as a symbol of
fertility. The actual original roofs made of palm fiber. But over time, the
roof has been replaced with zinc.
Which became the center of attention are stone chairs right in front of king’s
house. The mountain stones were carved to be chairs and table. This place was
used to be a trial, which was to decide what the appropriate punishment for
someone who did wrong. There are three major crimes that the punishment was
beheading. First, enemy spies, second, rape, third peek woman taking a bath.
Before someone was beheaded, it shall put in stocks under the king's house with
his feet and hands bound. Besides the stone seat there is a tree believed to be
a sacred tree by the Batak people.
